applicator landwheel in the making

Adding a hoop to my applicator landwheel

I have fitted a Horstine microband applicator to the rear of my bedtiller which will apply fertiliser to give the swede seeds a jump start.

The issue with this Horstine applicator is that it has the old type landwheel with just the metal prongs – rather than the newer version which has a hoop, the hoop makes it run much less jumpy and clunky.

This morning I cut a few strips of 4mm sheet metal 50mm wide and bent them into a radius using my eye and a block hammer.

Then to give the wheel something to grip, I cut 50mm off the metal prongs which I will add on after I have welded on the hoop.

After tacking the hoop in place, I tacked on the 50mm studs and then straightened up and fully welded everything.

Now the wheel is ready to be fitted to the applicator on my bedtiller.
