the bent cross member on my hardi sprayer pump

Hardi sprayer maintenance

Yesterday I fixed a thing on the sprayer which I had been meaning to do since I bought it.

The pump removed from the sprayer.

The day I was buying the sprayer I noticed the right side of the pump was touching the tank, which I did not want as it could eventually wear through the tank with vibration.

I soon realised that the steel cross member which the pump sits on below the front of the tank was bent upwards – something had obviously gave it a knock upwards.

I noticed there were only four bolts holding the pump to the cross member and the pump had only two hoses connected, then it would lift out clear.

I removed the two hoses easily and the four bolts came out without incident also. Then I lifted the pump out of the way – the pump is a good weight.

After inspecting the steel cross member I felt it would maybe straighten out if I hit it downwards with a sledge, so I went and got the sledge and hit it a good champ – perfect – I was pleased at how nicely the cross member straightened out.

Now the cross member has been straightened the pump no longer touches the tank, but the tank also needs to be moved to the right on its frame.

I cleaned the tank around the back of the pump and then set the pump back into position. It was a great job, although I noticed the pump was still closer to the tank on the right side than the left, but on further inspection, I saw that the tank simply needs to be moved over to the right on the sprayer frame.

The cross member has now been straightened and is a great job.
The cross member has now been straightened which I am much happier with.

This will be a simple fix – I will slacken the tank straps and adjust the plastic tank to the right, then retighten the straps to hold it in its new location. I oiled the strap nuts and bolts so they should be easier to work with the next day.
