Our Nuffield sitting in the shed with its cylinder head removed.

Nuffield 10/60 restoration – update 2

In the past few evenings, Harry and his granda have stripped more parts off the Nuffield. The image below shows the cylinder head removed from the engine block.

When the cylinder head was removed it provided access to the top of the pistons and the cylinder liners.

It had some gunk sitting on the top of the pistons and the cylinder liners had some slight corrosion, but it was very light and nothing which required further attention – it rubbed off easily.

Plenty of access to the block of the engine now.

I think their next step is to clean everything and give the cylinder head and block surfaces a rub with emery paper – not sure if they are going to grind the valves – I haven’t checked the valve seats.

The cylinder head and valves can be checked over now.
