Nuffield restoration – part 3

Today, Harry and his granda Tommy, took the brakes out of the tractor’s housing, which unusually, is placed below the seat of the tractor – what is even more unusual is that the brakes are dry disc brakes.

Most tractors have their brakes in line with the axle connecting to the rear wheel. Older tractors had dry drum brakes with brake shoes, then tractors began to make tractors with disc brakes which were immersed in the tractors back end oil.

This Nuffield has dry disc brakes, which are not on the main shaft attached to the back wheels, but sitting above the rear axle connected by gears.
